Benefit Harm Assessment: new innovative element of a HTA

In the last two reports of the SMB, a Benefit Harm Assessment was carried out as an additional methodological component. Based on the positive experience gained, the SMB suggests that this innovation be used in future complex HTA projects.

A conventional Health Technology Assessment answers the question of the balance of positive and negative effects of medical interventions and technologies only to a limited extent. This is where the so-called Benefit Harm Assessment comes into play. In a Benefit Harm Assessment, the positive and negative effects of a therapy are weighed in a systematic and transparent way and combined into an overall picture
