The aim of this report is to compare the surgical and non-surgical treatment of rotator cuff tears. Both options lead to an improvement in symptoms, though surgery is slightly more effective. However, a cost-benefit analysis suggests that conservative treatment is more desirable. The board’s appraisal committee concluded that because this problem is so common, it did not strongly recommend surgery, despite its advantages.
