What is the diagnostic value of cardiac computed tomography using new generation devices by comparison with the gold standard of invasive coronary angiography? This question has been investigated by the Swiss Medical Board specialist committee in a report just published. It bases its assessment of the clinical evidence on reports of the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and concludes that, in certain groups of patients, cardiac computed tomography is appropriate for the diagnosis of coronary heart disease.
