Significance of PSA level in early diagnosis of prostate cancer (2011)

The measurement of prostate-specific antigens (PSA test) is usually carried out with a view to the early diagnosis of prostate cancer, the most common cancer among men. In symptom-free men without risk factors, the PSA value is not however considered to be an indicator of prostate cancer, as the Swiss Medical Board sets out in a report. It is therefore recommended that PSA level testing should be avoided when there are no symptoms.
