The Swiss Medical Board has published a report on the treatment of common mitral valve deficiency. It compared conventional open-heart surgery with a gentler catheter-based procedure. As the procedure is still in the research stage, the committee recommends that the method should only be used for inoperable patients and that intensive long-term studies should be carried out.
